Root Kit Virus

Problem

Error message: “The application cannot be initialized, please click ok to terminate program” when opening EDGE (any version).

This error message means the following:
The windows system file “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package” is not installed on the machine. This is a package of necessary runtime files and .dll files that are required by Windows Operating system to run applications created in this environment (Visual C++).

This is typically caused by one or all of the following:
The Windows Service packs for the given operating system have not been installed properly.
The machine was upgraded from an old version of Windows (win 98 etc…).
The machine had a hard drive change and files were not copied over or backed up properly.
The operating system was corrupted by a virus and anti-virus and firewall software removed these files.

Solution

The resolution for this problem is to do one of the following:
– Download the “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package” from a web site that has this file for download and install this package.

If this does not work:
– Re-install the operating system.
– In all cases the client must get his IT people involved as this is a third party issue in relation to our software.
