Install The EDGE Estimator v10

A New Computer for a New User

  1. You need to create a backup file of the estimating database off another user’s computer. To create a backup file, you need to be logged in to the program, once you are logged into the program you will choose the option Database in the top left-hand corner.

After you click the drop-down you will see an option to create a database back up file.

Once you click on that choice you will need to click the three-dotted button and navigate to the EDGE Database folder.Then give your backup file a name and save it under the EDGE Databases folder on the C: Drive.

2. Is to locate the estimating database back up file. If you followed step one then you should find it on the C: drive under the EDGE Databases folder.

3. Is to now copy the backup file to either a shared drive or a thumb drive. Then you will need to transfer this file to the new computer.

4. Once you have the backup file on the new computer your next step is to download version 10. To start downloading you will click the email link that was sent to you taking you to box.com. Once you are on box.com in the upper right-hand corner you will see a download button. This allows you to download the install file to your computer in the form of a zip file.

5. After you have the install file saved to your computer now you need to extract the information from the zipped folder by right-clicking on the file on your desktop and choosing extract all. For ease of access, you can save the extracted files to the desktop.

6. Now that you have the file saved to your desktop it’s now time to install the program. You will need to open the file we just saved to your desktop, once opened you will need to double click on the “Install.exe” file.

After you click on the install file you then need to choose how to program gets installed. You will choose the standalone option then click next and accept through the install until it says “Installation Complete”. Then you will click finish.

7. Move the back up file to the EDGE Databases folder on the C: drive of the new computer.

8. Now it’s time to connect your estimating database as well as your jobs database. Once you open the program and login in to the upper left-hand corner you will see Database you will click here.

Then choose the option to restore the database from the back up file.

When you click that option, you will have a window pop up. You will need to click the bottom three-dotted button and navigate to the EDGE Database folder and choose the backup file. Then you will click the top three-dotted button and type in a name for the estimating database on this computer (Ex. (your company name) Estimating DB).

Once you have the name typed out click open in the bottom right-hand corner. If this is done correctly you should see a message pop up saying “Database successfully restored”.

9. Now we need to connect the estimating database. To do so you will need to go up to “Database” then choose Open Estimating Database.

Navigate to the EDGE Databases folder where you saved the database file. Choose it and click open.

10. Now we need to create a jobs database. To create this, you will need to click on the upper left-hand corner and choose “Database”.

This time you will move to the bottom of the options and choose “Create Job Database”. Once you click that option it will open a file explorer screen you will need to give you file a name (Ex. Local Jobs DB).

A New computer for an Existing User

  1. You need to create a backup file of the estimating database off the user’s old computer. To create a backup file, you need to be logged in to the program, once you are logged into the program you will choose the option Database in the top left-hand corner.

2. Now you need to copy both the “EDGE Databases” and “EDGE Jobs” folder from the user’s old computer and you will need to transfer those to the users’ new computer on the C: Drive. The main reason for transferring the “EDGE Jobs” folder is to make sure that all of the jobs you have created are being transferred to your new computer.

3. Once you have the files on the new computer your next step is to download version 10. To start downloading you will click the email link that was sent to you taking you to box.com. Once you are on box.com in the upper right-hand corner you will see a download button. This allows you to download the install file to your computer if the form of a zip file.

4. After you have the install file saved to your computer now you need to extract the information from the zipped folder by right-clicking on the file on your desktop and choosing extract all. For ease of access, you can save the extracted files to the desktop.

5. Now that you have the file saved to your desktop it’s now time to install the program. You will need to open the file we just saved to your desktop, once opened you will need to double click on the “Install.exe” file.

When you click that option, you will have a window pop up. You will need to click the bottom three-dotted button and navigate to the EDGE Databases folder and choose the backup file. Then you will click the top three-dotted button and type in a name for the estimating database on this computer (Ex. (your company name) Estimating DB).

Once you have the name typed out click open in the bottom right-hand corner. If this is done correctly you should see a message pop up saying “Database successfully restored”.

7. Now we need to connect the estimating database. To do so you will need to go up to “Database” then choose an open estimating database.

Navigate to the EDGE database folder where you save the database file. Choose it and click open.

8. Time to connect your “Jobs Database”, to connect the database you need to go to the upper left-hand corner and choose “Database”. Once selected now you need to choose the option that says open jobs database. After that option has been selected it will open up file explorer and now you choose the jobs database and click open.
