How To Attach A Database (V10.7.5 and earlier)

Occasionally you will receive a database from another source within your company. If the database you receive is an “EDGE Backed Up Database,” the you will Restore database from backup file. If on the other hand the database file you receive has a MDF or LDF extension (that portion of the file name after the period) you will have to “attach” the database.

The first step you have to do prior to attaching the database is to copy it from the source to someplace on your hard drive. To Attach A Database click Database | Utilities | Attach Database. The following dialog will open:

Database Alias – A name you create for your database.
Data File Name – Lookup the name of the database where you stored it on your hard drive.
