6 Steps of an Interior Estimate Expanded

Step #1: Setup the Job

  • Create a Job (Click on “New Bid” and enter a Bid Name)
  • In the Bid Properties window, click on “Add Images”
    • Navigate to the images you want then mark them using Windows shortcut keys Ctrl+Click, Shift+Click, etc., then click “Open.” The images will be imported into your bid
    • Click on one of the thumbnail images and click “Add Page.” The image title you selected will appear on the right side under Pages Added.
    • Click “Continue” at the bottom right. You will now be on the Scenarios list
  • Move to the Sections list by clicking the right arrow
  • Move to the Pages list by clicking the right arrow
  • Move to the Conditions list by clicking the right arrow (Note: Make sure you are on the page with the drawing you plan to measure)
  • Click “Add Condition”
    • The Add Conditions to Page window will appear
    • There are three columns to this screen with the Groups portion open
    • Select the groups and conditions to add from the Group Database. (To do this, click the category, then the group you want.)
    • The conditions contained in the group will appear in the Conditions column
    • Then click “Add All”, and lastly “Add to Page”
    • The conditions will be added to your bid

Step #2: Measure the Job

  • Click on the first condition to measure and click “Take off”
  • Verify that you are on the correct drawing that you want to measure.
  • Hint: If you are using 2 monitors, you can now drag the Take-off window to the other monitor. This allows easy access to the conditions as well as the drawing.
  • Select a scale or calculate the scale by clicking on “Scale” at the bottom left of the Takeoff window. To calculate the scale, click “Calculate.”
  • Now zoom in on a dimension by clicking the magnifying glass icon and clicking two points, first at the upper left and then at lower right, encompassing the dimension.
  • Then click the two points of the dimension on your drawing and enter the length (Example: 100’6” or 100.5), then click “OK”
  • If the scale looks correct, click “OK,” otherwise select the appropriate scale from the dropdown and then click “OK”
  • Use drawing functions to measure the conditions in the job. To move to the next measurable condition, press N on the keyboard or click on the condition in the Bid Tree to
    the left of the Take-off screen.
  • Use non-drawing functions for labels, arrows, etc.
    • Drawing Tips: Backspace removes the last point measured if you have not completed a shape. Enter completes the shape (or right click and select End Shape). N on the keyboard ends the shape and moves to the next condition. P on the keyboard ends the shape and moves to the previous condition.
  • When finished measuring, go back to the Conditions list by selecting one of the conditions in the Condition list.
    (If you only have one monitor, clicking “Bid Grid” at the top left hand corner of the Takeoff window will also work.)

Step #3: Price the Job

  • Click dollar sign buttonthe button to access the Pricing screen
  • Enter or adjust prices for all non-labor lines in the job.
  • Use The Pricing Wizard (magic wand icon) to adjust order and price units for non-labor lines.

Step #4: Adjust Labor

  • Click the clock button to access the Labor screen
  • Enter or adjust production rates for each line as necessary.
  • Use The Pricing Wizard (magic wand icon) to complete other missing information for labor lines in the

Step #5: Mark up the Job

  • Click the check mark button to access the Recap screen
  • Adjust markups, i.e. taxes, burdens, overhead, profit, etc. by double clicking the percent you want to change.

Step #6: Print Reports

  • Click the document button to open the Reports window
  • Click the play button to preview a report
  • Check the box next to each report you want to print then click “Print Selected”

Other Tips:

Adding an image to an existing page

If you have a page but forgot to add an image, or when adding a revised drawing

  • Make sure you have one or more measurable conditions on the page.
  • Click “Take Off” to navigate to the drawing screen. Note: To insert or swap an image, click on the Page in the Job Tree, the Page information will appear in the right hand pane.
  • If the image has already been loaded into the job, click the Image drop down
  • Select the image you want then click Apply. The image will now appear on the Take-off screen. Note: To begin measuring, select a measurable condition and then set the scale

Adding an image to a job file

(i.e. to the background image manager… but not to a specific page)

From the Bid Properties
  • On the menu bar, click Bids/Edit/Bid Properties then click “Add Images”
  • Select your image, and click “Open”
  • Click “Continue” (in the lower right hand corner)
From the Page, Section or Scenario bread crumb click “Manage Bid Images”
  • Next click Add Image
  •  Select your image, and click Open

Click Continue (in the lower right hand corner). Click X to close the Manage Bid Images dialog. You have successfully added a new image into the image manager.

From the Take-off Screen
  • Click the screen icon at the far left of the Bid Tree
  • Select your image, and click “Open”
  • Click “Continue” (in the lower right hand corner)

Getting back to the Scenarios, Pages or Conditions screen

  • Click “Bid Grid” (in the upper left hand corner)
  • Or, click on the appropriate breadcrumb

Viewing all images in a current job

  • If you just want to view the images that are in the current job (i.e. Background image manager), while on the Drawing screen:
  • Click Images in the bottom left hand corner, next to Bid Tree. Then double click on the image you want to view.

Closing the Images view

  • Click the “X” in the upper right hand corner of the Image breadcrumb

Getting back to the Bid Tree from the Images tab

  • If you are in the Images tab and want to get back to the Bid Tree:
  • Click Bid Tree to the left of Images.

Cropping an image to make another separate image

  • Move to the Images tab and double click on the image you want to view.
  • Position and zoom as necessary to see all of the portion you want to crop.
  • Select the Crop tool on the left hand side of the Image screen.
  • Click the upper left and lower right of the image to crop so a box is formed around the image. The cropped image will appear in a smaller view on the right side of the screen.
  • Type the name you want for the image in the “Name of new image:” field.
  • Click the Save button. Your cropped image is now listed separately with your other images.
